LAGRANGE, Ga. (Nov. 19, 2020) – Sydney Scott, public relations assistant at Georgia Southwestern State University, received the Outstanding Newcomer Award at the 2020 Georgia Educational Advancement Council (GEAC) Conference, held virtually Nov. 18-19.

A GSW graduate, Scott joined the university’s Department of University Relations in January 2018 and quickly became a key contributor to the department’s communications and creative work. Following a universitywide branding refresh, she developed customized logos for more than 70 campus units and created a 35-page style guide to promote consistent use of the university’s brand.

Scott has expanded her responsibilities to include designing admissions and student recruitment materials, producing the university magazine, The Aeolian, and creating graphics for campus events and social media. She also supports the university’s photography and videography efforts and developed the #GSWHistory social media series, which has engaged alumni and community members through archival photographs and stories. Her digital content work includes more than 45 custom GSW GIFs that have collectively generated more than 10 million views.

The award recognizes Scott’s initiative, creativity and professional growth during her early career in higher education advancement, as well as her contributions to GSW’s communications, marketing and institutional visibility.
