Job Description:
Oversees alumni solicitation and relations, major annual fund raising, donor acquisition programs, and public relations. Plans and coordinates special events and fund raising projects. Develops strategies for marketing new and existing programs. Researches donor histories and solicitation strategies. Writes and edits proposals and other promotional materials. Plans, administers, and monitors the department's budget. Designs and generates reports. May supervise staff. Performs related responsibilities as required.

Bachelor's degree and three years experience in higher education, development, fund raising, or a related field.

The Development and Alumni Relations division of Emory University is seeking a dynamic team member to serve as the Associate Director of Development - Emory Healthcare. The Associate Director's primary responsibility is to assist in the strategic execution and management of a comprehensive annual giving program including direct and digital marketing appeals, leadership annual giving program, tribute and memorial giving, and matching gifts program. While this is an Emory University position, the fundraising initiatives primarily support Emory Healthcare and patient programming. This position reports to the Executive Director of Annual Giving, Woodruff Health Sciences Center.
Primary Duties:
o Develops an annual fundraising plan as part of the overall strategic plan. The plan will specify fundraising goals, timelines and opportunities for special appeals, major gifts, and annual campaigns.
o Devises and implements strategies that acquires new donors to the annual giving program and inspires current donors to upgrade their level of support.
o Designs and implements strategies to steward annual giving donors and to increase the number of donors who regularly make a major gift.
o Creates, develops and executes a highly effective pipeline strategy component within annual giving.
o Provides support to the Major Gift officers in the cultivation and solicitation of donors. Produces appeals and coordinates cultivation strategies to prospective donors throughout the year.
o Coordinates annual giving strategies for other specialty constituents, such as advisory board members and grateful patients, in an efficient and effective fashion.
In addition, he/she will foster the growth of best practices in the supporting areas of data management as related to annual giving. The associate director has a keen appreciation for the foundation of annual giving as the enabling component of successful major and gift planning programs.
The Associate Director helps to provide strategic direction for Emory Healthcare while supporting the greater development and campaign goals of Development and Alumni Relations at Emory University.
The Associate Director is responsible for ensuring that the Woodruff Health Sciences Center and Emory Healthcare are viewed as leaders among peers and is measured externally in terms of total dollars, percentage participation, consistency of giving and average gift size.
Key Initiatives Include:
o Determining annual giving goals and building of strategic and tactical plans for achieving these goals. This strategy will be a comprehensive plan utilizing the resources available through Development and Alumni Relations at Emory University.
o Focus on effective communication and solicitation activities within specific market segments identified as having potential for the greatest growth.

Preferred Qualifications:
Strong managerial, leadership and supervisory skills necessary. Demonstrated organizational and communication skills as well as ability to work with and motivate other development professionals and volunteers. Excellent skill and understanding of computer and constituent software required. Digital marketing and mass email skills required. Ability to work independently and within a team environment. Willingness and ability to travel and to work nights and weekends, as required.
o Ability to work cooperatively to achieve common goals; supporting cooperation, collaboration and the sharing of information while providing the best quality product available and continuously upgrade standards to maintain quality, in all areas of responsibility.
o Ability to provide direction and motivation to others through communication, modeling appropriate behavior, optimism and high achievement.
o Understanding of database management, gift processing and donor relations.
o Openness to new ideas and their implementation. Ability to react and adapt to changing situations appropriately.
o Ability to listen carefully to and understand customers' needs, both internally and externally, and proactively respond to those needs in a consistent and timely manner.
o Demonstrated analytical and fundraising skills with the ability to recognize opportunities, identify critical, high pay­off activities and prioritize them to attain goals.
o Ability and interest in managing, developing, motivating, and mentoring staff.
