The Director of Development will manage a comprehensive program of major gift fundraising that will develop and steward relationships with Thomas University constituents, including alumni, friends, businesses, and organizations. The incumbent also serves on the Advancement office team, overseeing events and assisting others with alumni relations, annual fund and grants.

Essential Job Functions

Manage a portfolio of major gift prospects, including:

  • Identification of new major gift prospects to TU
  • Cultivation of new and existing prospects and donors
  • Proposal development and solicitations at the $5,000 and above level
  • In coordination with the VP and Director of Foundation Relations, donor stewardship

Oversee all University-wide fundraising and stewardship related special events, while:

  • Working closely with the Assistant to the President to schedule and coordinate dinners, receptions, and events featuring the President and/or the Vice President for Institutional Advancement
  • Working closely with the Advancement Services Coordinator and the respective vendors to ensure events meet fundraising and stewardship goals and objectives

In the absence of the VP, may represent the Office of Institutional Advancement to the President’s office.

Qualifications and Special Skills
  • Evidence of success as a major gift fundraiser for 3 or more years
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to represent the advancement department professionally
  • Capable of working with sensitive information with complete confidentiality
  • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to simultaneously multi-task the multiple functions of the advancement office
  • Creative, innovative, resourceful, and adaptive to change
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Computer literate in customer relationship management (CRM) applications and reporting
  • Flexibility with work schedule and available to work weekends and evenings, as needed
  • Willingness and ability to travel overnight (10 – 20%; 2 to 4 days/month); regional day-trips anytime
  • Experience planning and coordinating special events

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree and 5 years advancement experience required
  • Master’s degree preferred

Preferred
  • Higher education fundraising experience
